6 things to do to become a PhD holder before age 30

As messed up as people think our educational system is in Nigeria, you will be amazed to find lots of educated people around.
There are people who are constantly thirsty for knowledge and would do all it takes to learn.

Even though many people nurse the desire to be educated, the stress of gaining admission withers their thoughts. Considering this major challenge, many people's dreams of graduating at an early age get shattered.
Many Nigerian youths had their lives mapped out before the struggle of gaining admission set in. This issue leaves most Nigerian parents exasperated thus, they go for private universities which are not plagued by the regular strikes that have reduced the glory of the federal universities.
Whatever the situation may be, do not ever allow the obstacles you see on the way to make you lose focus. Remain steady with whatever it is you know how to do best; the obstacle can be the way. Let your desire to be successful be as strong as ever.
Due to many reasons, the graduates produced from the tertiary institutions seem to be individuals with a wealth of experience given their struggle to get in and the hustle to make it even after graduation.
As flawed as the educational system is, we still have young chaps who are intelligent and dedicated to academic work. Tertiary institutions in Nigeria admit tons of people who apply for their postgraduate programs.
Amazingly, we have some Nigerian youths who are already PhD holders even though they are in their 20s.
Check out the things to do to become a PhD holder before age 30:
1. Know your strength
The underlining note is to try and have an early start in life. If you are hell bent on being a PhD holder before you clock 30, then you need to know what you are getting into.
You should be smart enough to study courses that you will not have to struggle with before you understand the basics.
If you did not have the opportunity to make your own decision with your choice of study, you can make plans to change to your preferred department. Do not allow yourself to be pushed.
2. Set goals
No one can know you better than you. It is your sole responsibility to draw out plans on how you want your life to be. On this note, set goals that are in line with your pursuit of the PhD.
Take small steps towards your goals and work diligently in ending set tasks. Be realistic with the goals you make.
3. Be determined
There will be obstacles on the way. If you are studying in a federal university, there may be long strikes that may leave you crippled with the fear of not achieving your aims and objectives. Do not be daunted by these things.
Fixing your eyes on the prize will renew your strength each time. Do all that is within your power not to quit on your dreams when the times get rough.
4. Choose the right schools
Some tertiary institutions teach some courses better than the others. Depending on what you want to major in, choose schools that will support your dreams and help you achieve your set goals.
If you plan to study abroad, most of the schools there have professionals who will guide you when it comes to choosing courses. Your talents and abilities come in useful here as they will help you have a better understanding of your course.
While studying, remember time waits for no one. Avoid procrastination and every element that comes with it. Make effort to finish your course work within the time allocated by the university. Project should be done and submitted at the right time too.
5. Study like your life depends on it
Being a PhD holder at a young age is no joke. You have to be prepared to make sacrifices in order to get it done once and for all. Being young is an advantage as you are able to stretch yourself and do the needful.
The saying 'make hay while the sun shines' is deep! As an undergraduate, there is a minimum grade you must have if you want to further. In most Nigerian universities, a grade point of 3.5 is perfect for a master's degree while 4.0 will be considered for a PhD.
6. Acquire skills
Even as you struggle to fulfill you dreams, endeavour to learn from other people. One key to being successful in life is not to be limited to a particular field. While you are studying and preparing to get your degree, acquire as many skills as possible.
Go for short courses in addition to the free training programs organised by schools. Find ways of testing your knowledge by applying the things you learn in your everyday life.
Do not be a loner, have mentors who can add to your knowledge and share their life experiences with you. You never can tell when the skills you are learning will come in handy.
