The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tertiary institutions Kogi State has declared a 5 days warning strike from 16th January, 2017 to press home their demands.
This was contained in 5th communique issued on Thursday at the end of the meeting held at Kogi state college of education Ankpa.
The communique, which was signed by JAC Chairman, Tolufase Henry, and Secretary, Akubo Odoma said the meeting held with top government officials led by the Secretary to Kogi State Government, Folashade Arike Ayoade ended in a stalemate as none of their demands were met.
The communique added that the SSG demanded JAC to give the government two weeks to publish the names of affected workers by the review committee which they are not satisfied with after 12 month of an unsuccessful screening exercise.
It stressed that all communique issued by JAC remain valid till adding that an injury to one is an injury to all.
It noted that the report of the screening committee was incomplete and did not bring up the list of staff who have uncleared issues with the screening committee and with reasons why each person was not clear
The communique urged government to give all uncleared persons a final opportunity to defend themselves before an appeal committee within a period of one month after which established fraudulent practices should be prosecuted adding that membership of the appeal committee should not include members of the current review committee and include JAC representatives.
As a matter of urgency and necessity, the Congress told government to appoint persons who are credible, experienced and are of unquestionable character to various governing councils of tertiary institutions in the state.
The statement said since there was no directive from government on specific banks to operate as salary accounts, declaring such categories of workers as ghost workers is unacceptable as they should be cleared and paid immediately.
They advised government to take a bold step by decentralising the screening appeal committee because those they would be re-screening have not been paid.
JAC observed that the promises of government to pay all genuine workers on or before 20th December, 2016 did not materialize stating that not all genuine workers have been paid.
The statement revealed that their members on study leave abroad who have gone to develop themselves in order to develop the state have had their salaries stopped.
