Publish Kogi Staff Verification Report, Ofu LG Workers Demand

Local Government workers in Ofu have called on Kogi State Government to as a matter of urgency publish the report of the just concluded Kogi State and Local Government Workers screening exercise, so that they may know their fate.

The request was made when leaders of NUT, NULGE, M&HWU and NASU in the local council visited the Kogi State House of Assembly member representing Ofu Constituency, Honourable Friday Ali, to seek the support of Kogi State House of Assembly over the plight of workers as a result of the screening exercise in the state.
The union leaders lead by Kogi East Zonal Leader of NUT, Comrade Shaibu Mudu Okpanachi, called on Kogi State Government to urgently pay officers who have eventually be screened by the committee but who have not received salaries for over nine months ago.
He said, inasmuch as workers depend on their salary to feed and meet other obligations of their family, keeping them endlessly without salary is a dangerous misnomer, adding that, “let the government pay us any percentage of salary they like, so that unpaid workers can feed.”
The union leaders, he said have visited the House of Assembly members so that they can speak to Kogi State Government through him, lamenting that all LGEA administrative staffs in the 21 local councils of the state have not been paid for the past one year, calling on Kogi State House of Assembly to meet and deliberate on the plight of workers in the state.
Responding, Honourable Friday Ali said any politician who jokes with workers affairs jokes with his political career, stressing that it is a pity that the staff verification has taken so long a time.
He said the state government will eventually publish the report, after which the state House of Assembly will meet the governor on the matter, thanking workers for not taking laws into their hands by taking violent options.
